 #26) A Perpetual Union:

The sole value of the Articles of Confederation was in effect to establish a “Perpetual Union.” None saw more clearly than Washington its inadequacy to regulate and direct all matters of general concern. Washington held that....our independence....our respectability...our greatness as a nation hereafter, depend upon vesting Congress with competent powers. He expressed concern that after gloriously and successfully contending against the usurpations of Britain we may fall a prey to our own follies and disputes. Following the war Alexander Hamilton and James Madison were in constant communication with Washington . In consequence of their efforts a quorum of 55 members elected by the individual states assembled in Independence Hall on May 25,1787. 

#27) Wisest Work Presented to Man:

Congress assembled in Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on May 25,1787. Over the hot summer they hammered out their differences and on September 17,1787, they presented the Constitution to the States for ratification. Jefferson proclaimed it to be the wisest work ever presented to man. Later, Gladstone wrote: “The American Constitution is the most wonderful work ever struck off at a given time by the brain and purpose of man.” Washington commented this: “In our endeavors to establish a new general government, the contest, nationally considered seems not to have been so much for glory as for existence. It was for a long time doubtful whether we were to survive as an independent Republic or decline from our federal dignity into insignificant withered fragments of empire. 

#28) But No Bill of Rights?:

The chief objection to the newly proposed Constitution was the absence of the Bill of Rights. Since the Constitution of the individual states contained protections of the right of man, most delegates of the Constitutional Convention believed that listing them was unnecessary. However, many of their countrymen thought otherwise. In Virginia Patrick Henry led the opposition to its adoption without a Bill of Rights included. The influence of Washington, Jefferson, Madison, and John Marshall carried the resolution to ratification by a vote of 89 to 79. Upon its ratification by the necessary quorum, the individual states set about the selection of their first senators and representatives. 

#29) Bill of Rights Enacted.

In Virginia, Patrick Henry successfully opposed the nomination of James Madison as one of the two senators under the new government. Madison then sought to be elected as a member of the House of Representatives, promising the Virginians that, if elected, he would work to obtain the desired Amendments to the Constitution. With great effort, he kept his promise, and the first Ten Amendments to the Constitution, drafted by James Madison, and known as “The Bill of Rights” became law on December 15,1791. 

#30) Men who Feared God:

These are the chief luminaries whose contributions to the Three Founding Documents of our country and our government were indispensable. They were indeed public servants, honorable citizens, men who feared God, and worthy souls who offered up their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor in a Noble Cause. Let US who have enjoyed the abundant fruit of their labors go and do likewise. Our the United States of America is in great need of individuals who will (in the words of Oliver Cromwell when recruiting for his Ironsides.)
