COMMUNIST AMERICA...MUST IT BE?
Introduction: PL Sturgis: These facts are taken from an update by Hargis 30 years after the printing of “Communist America” from the 1950’s. Now it is 2018, which is over 30 years from the fact update. It is transparent now for all who will not refuse to look at the facts.
Billy James Hargis (1925-2004) was a Christian radio evangelist (the "Christian Crusade") in the 1950s and 1960s. After accusations of misconduct in the 1970s, he retired, his college closed, and he faded into relative obscurity.
He wrote in the Foreword to this 1960 book, "I am convinced that Communism is winning World War III without firing a single shot or losing a single soldier, and the apathy and lethargy of God's people are responsible. The Church of Jesus Christ should be in the forefront in the fight against Communism. After all, she has more to lose than any single institution if the Communists take over."
He strongly asserts that "Patriotism and Christianity are very close to each other. It is impossible to be a true Christian and not be a true patriot." Furthermore, "America is and always has been a Christian nation. The very spirit of the American Constitution reflects the teachings of Christ." (Pg. 33)
He laments the fact that the average Christian father knows more about popular TV shows, than he does about the philosophies and teachings that are molding the future of his children. (Pg. 58)
Citing a number of Supreme Court decisions with which he disagrees, he says that "The power of the Supreme Court to weaken the nation's security has become a danger so great that unless Acts of Congress are passed to offset the court's rulings, America cannot defend itself from complete capture by Soviet Russia. Subversion within America is to that end." (Pg. 118)
He critizes "apostate church leaders" in the U.S. (pg. 158) but concludes that "Communism, the works of the devil, will be destroyed... Christ, the Good Shepherd, will lead America out of danger, destroying the satanic works of Communism, if His sheep will believe and will follow." (Pg. 175)
Billy James Hargis (whose scandals preceded the later PTL and Jimmy Swaggart by more than a decade) is not surprisingly almost forgotten today; but those interested in the history of anti-communism in this country should be aware of him.

The new disarmament and appeasement curriculum in American Education will weaken the will to resist Communism and plant seeds in the minds of America’s future leaders that it is America and our Christian nation’s fault, and our Constitution that is wrong in this struggle between freedom and tyranny. There had been some hope that American education might emerge from the dark ages and give kids a chance to get ahead in life. the hopes of millions of American parents and school supporting tax payers were lifted in the spring of 1983 when President Reagan’s National Commission on Education Excellence reported the sorry state of the schools and outlined a program of reform. Today (2018) the schools are still in a sorry state and the reform plan has been killed by the teacher’s Union known as the National Education Association, which stubbornly contends that only money is needed to improve education, despite more than two decades of evidence to the contrary. The N.E.A is not to be underestimated! It has strong friends in congress.

Bite 13) N.E.A Embraces Communist Propaganda:
The National Education Association embraces Communist propaganda concerning America’s national defense by introducing into the curriculum of all schools the misnamed “peace program” that might as well have been written in the Kremlin for all the good it had to say about our National Defense and Security Policy. The liberals who control the NEA tried to scare the wits out of American school kids with the phony peace program that played upon the horror of nuclear war, criticized American defense expenditures on missiles and other military hardware and promoted a utopian dream of effortless peace without military strength to support it. This unrealistic teaching was introduced into many American classrooms during the height of the Communist sponsored “peace campaign” designed to halt the placement of American missiles in Europe to offset the Soviet’s already placed SS 20’s intimidating Western Europe.
Bite 14) N.E.A Curriculum (Not Schools) is Enemy:
Despite the N.E.A’s acceptance of Soviet policy and resistance of school prayer and Bible reading, some states have moved to reform their schools anyway, only to run into a local and state N.E.A opposition. For instance, in Texas Governor Mark White appointed a select committee on public education, headed by multi-millionaire Ross Perot, a man whose record of patriotism frightens the Communist appeasers in the N.E.A. Perot’s committee came up with a plan to overhaul Texas Public schools, establish merit pay and promotion for teachers, institute a curriculum that was something other than anti-American; demand students behavior, short of riots and anarchy, and insisted upon other improvements the N.E.A had opposed traditionally. The Texas State Teachers Union came out against such forms as competency testing of teachers; stricter disciplines, and even such basic academics such as reading, writing, and arithmetic! So there is trouble in Texas and in many other states who are experiencing the same thing in their efforts to reform education against the wishes of the National Education Association and mass backed educational hierarchy who helped get the schools in the mess they are in today.Bite 15) A Dinosaur Society:
Unfortunately, the ones who suffer the most in this Dinosaur society of education are the children. For them, education has been reduced to its lowest common denominator; robbed of moral guidance and spiritual inspiration; removed from the presence of God and isolated from new ideas. Except in rare cases of rich school districts and exceptional teacher administration enlightenment, look for the schools to sink deeper into the dark ages which enveloped them in the 60’s. The Presidential Reform Commission (1986) made the, not so surprising, discovery that there is a connection between the educational system and national economic success. Is it any wonder we have had recessions, strikes, unemployment when millions of graduates are functionally illiterate? They can’t read, write, or solve simple math problems but they know about sex. They know how to drive and take cigarette breaks. They have an interest in physical education and sports. Our schools spend millions of our tax money on sports and gymnasiums, but nothing on Bibles!
