Fox Business abruptly cancels Lou Dobbs’ show
According to the Los Angeles Times on Friday, the Fox Business Network abruptly canceled their most popular show, “Lou Dobbs Tonight” this week. The Times said Dobbs is unlikely to appear on Fox again.
Lou Dobbs’ show aired at 5 pm and 7 pm weeknights, drawing the network’s biggest audience. The move furthers fears that Fox is addicted to self-harm and wishes to alienate itself from its conservative fanbase.
Dobbs, a staunch supporter of President Trump, followed closely and reported on the 2020 election and election fraud allegations.
In the aftermath of the 2020 election, Dobbs, Maria Bartiromo of “Mornings with Maria”, and Judge Jeanine Pirro hosted attorney Sidney Powell and President Trump’s personal lawyer Rudy Guliani who accused Smartmatic of rigging the 2020 presidential election.
Dobbs’ show was canceled one day after voting systems creator Smartmatic filed a defamation lawsuit against Fox News, Dobbs, Bartiromo, Pirro, Powell, Guliani, and some other parties. Smartmatic argues that the defendants falsely accused Smartmatic of rigging the 2020 election.
Fox denies the cancellation of Dobbs’ show is related to the lawsuit. In a statement, the network claimed: “As we said in October, Fox News Media regularly considers programming changes and plans have been in place to launch new formats as appropriate post-election, including on Fox Business. This is part of those planned changes.”
For a network promoting business, canceling the most popular show does not seem like a good business decision.
Concerning the Smartmatic lawsuit, Fox News said they are “proud of our 2020 election coverage and will vigorously defend this meritless lawsuit in court.”
