He started this election cycle with the belief that the former Obama VP would make a good candidate — until things started to change. The shift has been so fundamental that he describes it as the party walking away from him, not vice versa.
Like most Americans, he has spent much of 2020 watching scenes of rioting, looting, and attacks on his brother and sister officers with mounting horror as they emerged from cities like Portland, OR, and Seattle, WA. All he heard in response from the Democrats was, as he describes it, “deafening silence.” He knew they no longer represented him.
The Socialist/Communist ideology of the likes of Senator Bernie Sanders (D-VT) and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has definitely moved the party far to the Left and has abandoned their centrist core out in the cold. It’s just one more reason this election is being called the most critical in the history of the country: It may define what it means to be American for a long while to come.
