CDC Warns Americans to Prepare for Novel Coronavirus Pandemic.
CDC warned that Americans must prepare for rapid COVID-19 spread after the disease showed explosive growth in Iran, Italy, and South Korea. CDC asked, “folks in every sector as well as within their families to start planning for this.”
“We really want to prepare the American public for the possibility that their lives will be disrupted because of this pandemic,” advised Dr. Nancy Messonnier, director of the CDC’s National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases.
South Korea reports 977 sickened and 10 fatalities. Italy reports 277 sickened and 6 fatalities. Austria, Croatia, Switzerland, and Algeria reported their first cases of infection. Iran officially reports 61 infected and 12 deaths.
Iranian reports are broadly seen as unreliable and their containment efforts appear to have failed. Iran’s Deputy Minister of Health, the top Iranian official combatting the virus has been diagnosed as infected and has self-quarantined himself.
CDC advised parents to talk to their children’s schools about contingency education and childcare plans and teleworking options at work if the community spread accelerates in the US.
The Trump Administration has requested $2.5 billion to address the novel coronavirus epidemic.
