AMERICA'S CHRISTIAN FOUNDING
CAN AMERICA ABOLISH THE BIBLE AND CONTINUE TO BE GREAT?
The founding of America is unquestionably a Christian founding.
You see, when Pilgrims came to these shores, they were seeking Religious Freedom. In fact, they signed the famous ‘Mayflower Compact’, a covenant they all agreed on, in which they stated that ‘In the name of God’ they were coming to these lands with one clear purpose: ‘for the Glory of God and the advancement of the Christian Faith’.
In other words, they came here to evangelize, which is what God commands us to do in the Bible.
Fast forward to the 1740s and you find yourself in the middle of a Religious REVIVAL, also known as the Great Awakening led by pastors such as Jonathan Edwards and his famous sermon ‘Sinners in the hands of an angry God’. The Great Awakening ultimately led to the American Revolution of 1776. That is to say ...
without a RELIGIOUS REVIVAL, America wouldn’t exist today...
And Christian values continued shaping our wonderful country in the following years.
James Madison, the architect of our Constitution said this:
‘We have staked the whole future of American Civilization NOT upon the power of government, far from it. We have staked the future upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves, to sustain ourselves, ACCORDING TO THE TEN COMMANDMENTS’
That’s right, my dear friend. Our constitution and our entire civilization were founded on the Ten Commandments – the very Ten Commandments that are now banned from public buildings. Did they teach you any of this at school?
Now I have a few questions for you, my dear friend:
- Can America forget her Christian founding and remain prosperous?
- Can we remove God and remain free?
- Can we turn our backs on God and expect to survive?
- Can we abolish the Bible and continue to be good?
- Do you know of any country that’s evil and great?
- Can we abolish the Bible and continue to be great?
George Washington said:
'We ought to be no less persuaded that the perpetual smiles of Heaven can never be expected on a nation that DISREGARDS ETERNAL RULE of order and Right which HEAVEN ITSELF HAS ORDAINED'
In other words, there’s still RIGHT and WRONG…
Abraham Lincoln said:
'In regards to this great book, the Bible, I have this but to say: it is the best gift God has given to men. But for it, we would not know right from wrong’
Not only is there RIGHT and WRONG – it’s the BIBLE that tells you what’s right and what’s wrong.
Calvin Coolidge said:
'The foundations of our society and our government rest so much on the teachings of the Bible that it would be difficult to support them if faith in these teachings would cease to be practically universal in our country.’
In other words, the very foundations of our society and our government are at risk of falling apart to the extent that we continue turning our backs on God.
- How can a country that’s estimated to have KILLED 55 MILLION (yes, my dear reader, FIFTY-FIVE MILLION) unborn children call itself ‘good’? What’s so good about that?
- How can a country that’s expanded government handouts to the point of slavery call itself ‘good’?
- How can a country that’s funding abortions with taxpayer money call itself ‘good’?
- How can a country that’s killing babies in the last three months of pregnancy call itself ‘good’?
- How can a country that’s effectively funding terrorism call itself ‘good’?
And if we accept the fact that we don’t want to be good anymore and we now have become evil by choice, then let me ask you this:
- Do you think we can be evil and great?
- Do you think evil China is great?
- Do you think evil North Korea is great?
- Do you think the evil Soviet Union was great?
- Do you think evil Cuba is great?
- Do you think evil Nazi Germany was great?
- Do you think evil Iran is great?
- Do you know of any evil empire that was great?
- What makes you think that America can be evil and great? How long do you think that’ll last?
My friend, I’m worried. I’m worried that we rebel against God and expect to win. I’m worried that we have become evil and expect to win in the end. That’s not going to happen. America cannot remove God and expect to be great. It just can’t be – at least, not for much longer.
So let me ask you one last time: Can America ban the Bible and continue to be great?
I think you know the answer.
Turn to the Bible, my dear friend. For as long as we've followed Scriptures we’ve been great. There’s no reason to change that now.
