(THE END)
#1) At Sunrise:
At sunrise, the day following the Sabbath Day, three women came to the Garden where Jesus was buried. they came, as the custom was, to put ointment and spices on the body of Jesus. On their way they remembered that a great stone was rolled against the door of the tomb. “Who will roll the stone away?” they asked each other. But when they reached the tomb they found that someone must have been there before them and rolled the stone back. the women went to the door of the tomb. A young man dressed in white clothes was sitting on one side. The young man spoke: “You are looking for Jesus of Nazareth who was crucified. He is not here. He has risen from the dead. Look! There is the place where He laid!” they looked and saw He was not there. The young man said: “Go quickly and tell His disciples He is alive!” The women ran from the tomb trembling with fright and surprise. One of the women, Mary Magdaline saw two of the disciples coming. It was John and Peter. She cried out to them: “Someone has stolen our Lord’s Body!” John and Peter hurried to the tomb. They saw the white linen Jesus’ body had been wrapped in. They saw the napkin folded neatly. they did not know what to do so they all went home except Mary Magdalene.
#2) He is risen:
Mary Magdalene stood in the garden near the tomb, weeping as though her heart would break. She turned around and saw a man standing near her. He spoke to her and said: “Why are you crying? For whom are you looking?” Mary thought the man was a gardener. Through her tears she said: “Sir, if you have taken away the body of my Lord, tell me where you have laid Him?” The man said softly, “Mary! Mary!” Mary looked at him again. She knew that voice. It was Jesus. he was calling her name! “Master!” she cried out. She moved as if to try to hold Him but He moved away and said, “Do not touch Me now. I must go to My Father in Heaven. Go now and tell the disciples you have seen Me.” So Mary went and did as Jesus told her. She told the disciples. “I have seen the Lord.” Afterwards, no one could ever remember exactly what happened on that day. No one knew whether to believe that Jesus was really alive.
#3) The Emmaus Road:
Late that afternoon two disciples were walking along the road from Jerusalem to the village of Emmaus: They talked about what had happened when a stranger joined them. “What are you talking about?” the stranger asked. the disciples stopped. They were almost too sad to speak. “Are you the only visitor in Jerusalem who doesn’t know what has happened in these last few days? It is all about Jesus and Nazareth. He was a great prophet and teacher. the chief priests and rulers had Him crucified! We had hoped He was our Messiah who was going to save the Jewish people, but now it is two days since He was put to death and nothing has happened. Though there was a woman who went to the tomb and came away saying He is risen from the dead.
#4) About the Messiah:
As the two disciples walked sorrowfully down the Emmaus Road the stranger with them spoke to them. “Do you not believe what is in the Scriptures that the prophets tell you about the Messiah? Do you not see the Messiah had to suffer in order to be King? Long ago the Prophet Isaiah told you that He was despised by men; a man of sorrow and full of grief. He was hurt because we were so sinful. He suffered for our sake. He was killed like the Lamb of God and did not try to defend Himself. Isaiah was speaking of the Messiah. He was to be humble and sacrifice Himself like one of the lambs at the Pass Over Feast. Isaiah meant that the only one who can help others is the one willing to suffer for others. the Messiah never wanted to be a king like other kings. He did not want to lord it over others. He wanted to love all the people and give His life for them.” And the stranger went on: “You ought not to be sad thinking Jesus is not the Messiah. Jesus has lived and died just as the scriptures said the Messiah would do. His love and suffering proves that He is the Messiah. If His believers love one another and sacrifice for each other as He has done they will have peace and joy. then the disciples reached the home of another disciple and invited the stranger to break bread with them. As the stranger said a prayer as He was breaking bread with the disciples they immediately recognized Him. They knew it was Jesus. As they looked into His face He vanished out of sight. Even though it was night time they immediately left for Jerusalem to tell others that Jesus is alive.
#5) The Victorious King:
At Jerusalem the disciples from Emmaus was telling their story. “The Lord is alive. We knew who He was the moment He was breaking the bread. While they were speaking Jesus suddenly appeared among them again. Jesus spoke: “Peace be with you. Be not afraid. I am not a spirit.” They could hardly believe it. it seemed too good to be true. Jesus asked them if they had anything to eat. They set a piece of bread and broiled fish before Him and Jesus sat down to eat. The disciple named Thomas was not there and eight days later when they told him he said: “Unless I can see the nail marked hands and put my fingers in them I will not believe.” Suddenly Jesus appeared again and turned to Thomas: “Put your fingers in my nail scarred hands and doubt no more, Thomas!” Thomas fell on his knees and cried out: “My Lord and my God.” Then Jesus said, “Because you have seen Me you have believed. More blessed are they who have not seen me and yet do believe.” After this day the disciples saw Jesus many times after He had risen from the grave, but a day came after which they did not see Him on earth again. On this day Jesus appeared to them outside Jerusalem and said, “All power is given to Me in Heaven and on earth. Tell people of all nations to believe in Me and teach what I have taught you. he lifted His hands to bless them and told them: “I am with you always, even to the end of the world.” A cloud covered Him and they did not see Him anymore. As they gazed up into the sky they heard a voice saying, “Ye men of Galilee, Why do you stand looking up into the sky? The Lord Jesus will return the same way. then they remembered they had work to do. They had to go and tell people everywhere about the Savior. Go tell it on the Mountain....Over the Hills and Everywhere....Jesus is the Reason for the Season!
