Over the last few years, specifically under the Obama years, there was a lot of talk about a Con-Con, i.e. Constitutional Convention. Our Founders put this into our Constitution to give us the right to reset our Constitution if the government has taken things too far away from the intentions of the original Constitution and Bill of Rights. I don’t doubt that this has happened but the problem with a Con Con is when it is called out the existing form of government comes to a complete halt and whatever form of government comes out of the Con Con is what we will have. I don’t think we should go into a Con Con unless we know definitively what form of government we’ll end up with. There is nothing wrong with what the Founders gave us IF we would simply follow it. I don’t see a guarantee that we will come out with a government that is as good as the one the Founders gave us.

One has to set back and think about what happened in America where the respect for our Constitution was lost. Personally, I believe it was the Democrat Party as they have been the biggest violators of that sacred document. That sounds like a radical statement, but you will see in this series that the federal government has overstepped its bounds time and time again and now it seems that Washington has virtually ignored the foundation set out by the Founders. It seems that Washington welds the majority of power in America leaving very little to the States. Thomas Jefferson stated, “When all government, domestic and foreign, in little as in great things, shall be drawn to Washington as the center of all power, it will render powerless the checks provided of one government on another.” We are in that place today.

I have never written a column on a State of the Union address but the address given last night needs to be addressed as to the reaction of the Democrat Party. There has always been SOTU addresses where the party in power will have many standing ovations for their party leader, but the opposing party will remain seated. This I understand however, when points are brought out that America is, again, prosperous and regaining our rightful place as the leader of the free world, this should bring applause from both sides of the isle. But the hatred for Donald Trump is so deep that there was nothing but silence from Democrats for most of the evening. This only further confirmed that the Democrat Party is NOT for America but only for their political agenda.
