Giant flags of red, white, and blue, children shouting in parades, spinning noise-makers, streamers, and centerpieces: sounds like the perfect birthday celebration! But, the Fourth of July is more than just the nation's birthday. It is the countless number of friends and family, the perfect weather, the backyard barbeques, and the brilliant fireworks that light up the night sky. No other holiday makes people feel the same as they do on the Fourth of July. On the Fourth of July, friends, and family come together at parties, barbeques, carnivals, and picnics. People mingle for hours on end with only a light wind across their back and an ice-cold soda keeping them cool. It is a great day to catch up with old friends and the perfect time to meet new ones. Seeing loved ones on the Fourth of July only adds to the excitement felt on this holiday. The hot, glorious weather on the Fourth of July is ideal for any summer activity. White shirts and khaki bottoms are the perfect traditional outfits for keeping anyone cool and comfortable. The scorching sun has all the children in the neighborhood playing in the crisp, cold water, while their moms and dads lounge lazily by the pool. On the Fourth of July, a glass of ice-cold lemonade with ice cubes that turn to puddles after leaving the cold of the freezer for more than five minutes is just what you need to keep cool on such a sunny day. As the sun dips behind the hillside, children start to chase fireflies all over the block and place them in jars so their flickering, gentle lights can send the kids to sleep when their bedtime comes. The Fourth of July brings friends and family together for backyard barbeques that last all night long. The smell of bratwursts and hamburgers sizzling on the grill is enough to make anyone's mouth water. The fresh fruit seems to be infinite and the chips and soda are in never-ending supply. Popsicles are essential for children when they are finished running around and need to cool down. All the food at a barbeque is just right for summertime and a perfect meal on the Fourth of July. On the Fourth of July, when people are tired from such a long day, everyone gathers around to relax and watch the colorful fireworks burst in the sky. The shows vary in size from neighborhood performances of store-bought fire-crackers to cities putting on professional shows that make your head spin. Fireworks come in all different kinds, from loud ones to huge explosions of color, from ones that race down the street, to ones that seem to go on for miles up into the sky. Children wave around sparklers of bouncing color with their friends while their parents stand near, keeping a watchful eye on the much-anticipated activity. Fireworks are a tradition on the Fourth of July and the holiday just wouldn't be the same without them. From the countless number of friends and family to the hot weather, and from the mouth-watering barbeques, to the colorful show of fireworks, the Fourth of July is the perfect holiday for summer. People not only celebrate the nation's birthday, but they celebrate their friends, family, and the ones they love. Having a good time on the Fourth of July is almost a requirement with all of the fun activities that take place. The Fourth of July is a day when everyone in the nation can have a good time.
