Clinton Charity Money Again Going to Clinton Foundation After Hiatus
Nearly half of the Clintons' charitable donations last year went to the foundation after the one-year break
Hillary and Bill Clinton disbursed nearly half of their charitable giving last year to the Clinton Foundation after taking a one-year hiatus from pushing money to the entity, according to tax forms obtained by the Washington Free Beacon.
The Clintons use the Clinton Family Foundation, a smaller and separate entity than the Clinton Foundation, as their charitable vehicle. Nearly all of the money written off as charity on prior Clinton tax returns has gone to the foundation. Once the money is parked in the Clinton Family Foundation, the funds are then disbursed to a number of organizations.
Bill acts as the foundation's president while Hillary is its secretary and treasurer. Chelsea Clinton is listed as its director.
The Clintons deposited $1.5 million into the family foundation in 2017, according to the forms obtained by the Free Beacon from the assistant of Clinton's tax lawyer. The Clintons then distributed $1,093,500 in grants to a number of organizations and universities.
Of the $1,093,500 in donations, $500,000 ended up at the Clinton Foundation.
The Clintons also cut $100,000 checks to the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library Foundation, George Washington University, and Norfolk Hospital Foundation. Tens of thousands was also given to the likes of the University of Arkansas, Occidental College, and the Africa Center.
The Clintons gave no money to the Clinton Foundation in 2016 and their overall charitable giving dipped by millions, as they gave $395,000. The 2016 figures were a drastic decline from 2015, when the Clintons reported $2,630,500 in total donations from the Clinton Family Foundation. That year, $1.5 million of the $2.6 million handed out by the Clintons went to the Clinton Foundation.
Outside of 2016, the largest donation from the family foundation every year for nearly the past decade went to the Clinton Foundation.
The Clintons have passed more than $4 million from the Clinton Family Foundation to the Clinton Foundation since 2007, the Free Beacon previously reported.
Nick Merrill, Clinton's spokesperson, did not return a request for comment on the donations resuming to the Clinton Foundation by press time.
Hillary has positioned herself as a "resistance" leader against President Donald Trump following her defeat via the formation of Onward Together, a 501(c)(4) "social welfare" nonprofit that collects donations and then disburses them left-wing activist groups such as Color of Change, Latino Victory, and Indivisible.
Clinton sent $800,000 from her campaign funds to Onward Together shortly after its formation. Days later, the campaign began making tens of thousands worth of "rent" payments to ZFS Holdings LLC, a Delaware-based entity that was created to manage Clinton's speaking and book income.
The campaign has disbursed more than $150,000 in "rent" payments to Clinton's personal LLC to date.
Merrill, Clinton's spokesperson, told the Free Beacon that the payments were made because Clinton’s office, which served as a campaign office, is now used as a personal office, campaign wind-down office, and an office for Onward Together.
While Onward Together has yet to release a financial report, an employee from the group told the Free Beacon in February that Clinton handed out more than $1 million in contributions to other "resistance" groups last year.
Onward Together has also pocketed millions from the Democratic National Committee and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee for its email lists.
Hillary also recently announced that Onward Together had pulled in $1 million in donations in a matter of days after sending an email on the border "humanitarian crisis."
