The walk away campaign is about more than politics. It’s like leaving a cult, or a false religion. It’s realizing you have been brainwashed. It’s seeing that you have been the hypocrite all along, and everything you thought the other side was; intolerant, judgmental, selfish and hateful, that it was you. Not them.
I am a Christian. Always have been. And I justified being a Christian and a leftist for so long. I thought that democrat policies were aligned with Christ, and they truly cared about the poor. I also believed I was a victim. I thought I was constantly being judged by my skin color and womanhood. Because of that mindset, I grew bitter. I truly thought the world was against me, and that it was systematic.
But when I started to express my Christian beliefs I saw how the people who said they cared about me only showed hatred towards me. I got sick of the name-calling, intolerance and the mockery of my faith. I was in denial for so long and it wasn’t till after election night when Trump won, that I finally came to terms with that I could not be a Christian and a liberal. I saw them for what they were and realized that they had tried to brainwash people like me. And now I’m like an apostate to them because as a woman of color I'm supposed to think the way they tell me. And that isn’t speculation, it was my experience and what liberal people told me.
The vileness and vulgarity of the women’s march were when I knew I had to really walk away for good. And when I did I felt a sense of freedom that I never knew I missed. I have peace now. Especially knowing that I can stand with people who have morals, and especially that of protecting the most innocent and vulnerable among us; the unborn.
