Linda Sarsour arrested during Capitol Hill ‘Dreamer’ protest

Linda Sarsour the “Islamist” once characterized her opposition to “fascist” President Donald Trump as a “form of jihad,” while Linda Sarsour the “feminist” argued that Saudi Arabia’s generous social welfare system was sufficient compensation for the basic rights and privileges denied to women living in Shariah-compliant societies. “You’ll know when you’re living under Sharia Law if suddenly all your loans [and] credit cards become interest-free. Sound nice, doesn’t?” she asked.

Propelled to the national spotlight by calling herself an “intersectionalist” — that is, one who believes in the Marxist notion that minorities of every description are unified against a common oppressor — Sarsour assumed the paradoxical role of the Islamist-feminist and used her newfound infamy to organize the anti-Trump resistance. After joining the latest trending social justice movement by protesting congressional inaction on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, Sarsour was unceremoniously arrested outside Speaker of the House Paul Ryan’s Capitol Hill office for civil disobedience.

Serving time

The fate of nearly 800,000 people brought to the U.S. illegally as children hung in the balance Tuesday as Republicans and Democrats remain at a standstill over the Deferred Action of Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. The president gave Congress until March 5 to come up with a pathway to citizenship for the children of illegal immigrants, but an 11th hour Supreme Court ruling extended that deadline by nearly a year, placing the future of these would-be citizens in limbo while legislators search for a bipartisan solution.

Sarsour was joined by Jewish and Muslim faith leaders who occupied the hallway in a sit-in just outside Speaker Ryan’s D.C. offices. A live feed posted on Twitter captured the moment Sarsour was arrested by Capitol Police and placed in zip cuffs.

The throng of protesters and reporters marched through a hallway adjoining Ryan’s offices. The activists issued stump speeches before staging a sit-in and singing, “Our message to Congress, we shall not be moved.”

Yet, after police intervention, the demonstrators were definitely moved — to the local jail, that is, after being charged with civil disobedience. On Monday, Ryan’s leading Democratic opponent in the 2018 midterm elections was arrested after joining 200 student protesters in staging a similar sit-in outside of the congressman’s Racine, Wisconsin offices.

Justice is served
The 38-year-old radical has remained front and center in the left’s attempts to discredit the Trump administration. Even after Trump’s Supreme Court-sanctioned, travel restrictions were modified to include countries like Venezuela and North Korea, Sarsour continued to insist that the security measures constituted a “Muslim ban.”

When she wasn’t co-organizing polarizing Women’s Marches complete with burning effigies of the president, Sarsour was busy declaring who could — and could not — attend the feminist rallies. On behalf of the women’s movement, the Palestinian-American Sarsour decided that Jewish feminists must completely dissociate themselves from Israel before joining the movement.

This was by no means the first time that Sarsour found herself behind bars. The “hijab homegirl” was arrested outside of Trump International Hotel in New York City last year after she failed to comply with law enforcement warning to disperse. Sarsour was charged with disorderly conduct in that offense.

In addition to her legal troubles, Sarsour recently fostered resentment from within her own intersectionalist camp after being accused of covering up a sexual harassment incident in 2009. While Sarsour was acting director of the Arab American Society, Asmi Fathelbab told the Daily Caller that a coworker at the organization rubbed himself on her and later stalked her.

Fathelbab has accused Sarsour of ignoring her complaints and telling her that “no one would believe me because something like that doesn’t happen to someone who looks me.”

When Sarsour gets out of jail, she will have to respond to these charges and confront the hypocrisy surrounding her role as an advocate for inclusiveness and justice.
