Nancy Pelosi caught in yet another ‘brain freeze’ on camera amid health worries

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has long struggled to explain to Americans why the recent Republican-backed tax cuts are a raw deal for the country — especially with 90 percent of wage earners now taking home more money from their paychecks. But isn’t just economics that has the 77-year-old lawmaker stumbling over her words.

Speaking to reporters about a number of emerging policy issues, Pelosi had trouble articulating her arguments on Thursday, mumbling and stumbling through what became a cringe-worthy press conference — a trend which seems to have become a regular occurrence for the California Democrat.

Filled with false starts and sudden stops, corrections and missteps, Pelosi’s incoherent manner of speaking left some listeners saying she had “brain freeze,” and left most wondering how on earth she could be leading the Democratic Party.

Pure gibberish

Pelosi’s repeated gaffes would be comical — if she weren’t in charge of passing legislation that affects millions of American families. Addressing the controversial subject of gun control, the unashamed orator said that there is a “commensurate bipartisan — common sense bipartisan supp–, uh, path forward.”

Just moments later, Pelosi referred to a “task force” as a “tax force” before correcting herself. Although the Democratic Party could certainly be described as such, this was not the congresswoman’s meaning.

When arguing for the stricter gun control that her party so desperately seeks, Pelosi spontaneously and unexpectedly began referring to “comprehensive immigration reform” before she realized that she had drifted off and returned to the subject at hand.

“So we just say too, we’re just saying to the Speaker, ‘Give us a vote, just give us a vote,’” she said after settling back into the gun control debate.

Watch her full monologue below:

Pants on fire

Pelosi also made a mistake and corrected the error by telling a lie: regarding the GOP-led tax reform bill passed before Christmas, Pelosi began, “Once the tax scam is fully phased in, 6 million middle class families — excuse me,” she said, staring at her notes for what seemed like eternally. “86 million middle class families…”

Regardless of her argument, even Pelosi’s corrected numbers were wrong: there aren’t even 86 million middle-class families in America.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, there were only 126 million households overall in the U.S. in 2017. Meanwhile, the Pew Research Center found that only 46 percent of American household qualified as middle income in 2013.

Even the most generous estimates would find that there are only around 60 million middle-class American families.

Wait, what?

Still, Pelosi continued to spit out numbers, although they have been difficult to fact-check because her speech was so incomprehensible. She argued that Republicans plan to take “$500 billion out of Medicare. One-and-a-half — excuse me,” she stopped herself. “Trillion — half a trillion dollars out of Medicare,” she said, apparently confused about the two numbers — and perhaps unsure if there are really the same.

Focusing next on the sexual harassment pandemic and the lack of transparency surrounding legal settlements, the California representative said, “I don’t want to herm — harm victims…”

Finally, Pelosi sought to do “herm” to the Donald Trump administration by condemning staffers and aides who left the White House.

“They’re having served in that White House for one year is a giant enhancement as they go out to the public sector — private sector, the private sector,” she said, shouting out the last words as if she had suddenly discovered the answer to a difficult question on a television game show.

Th-th-th-that’s all, folks

The House Minority Leader certainly isn’t giving her party any reasons to trust in her leadership. During a recent forum for Democratic candidates seeking an Arizona congressional seat, the collective group was asked to raise their hands if they would “support Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House?”

Not a single hand was raised in support.
