What is the Constitution and why is it important? DO YOU KNOW....

What is the Constitution and why is it important?

The Constitution is important because it protects individual freedom, and its fundamental principles govern the United States. The Constitution places the government's power in the hands of the citizens. It limits the power of the government and establishes a system of checks and balances.

The Constitution of the United States established America's national government and fundamental laws and guaranteed certain basic rights for its citizens. It was signed on September 17, 1787, by delegates to the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia.

The role of a constitution is to provide scope for good government, while at the same time placing limitations on the powers of the governors. ... The system of checks and balances begins with the separation through a constitution of judicial, executive and legislative powers. However, it goes much further.

A Constitution helps serve as a set of rules and principles that all persons in a country can agree upon as the basis of the way in which they want the country to be governed. The constitution also spells out the ideas the citizens believe that their country should uphold.

The United States Constitution is the supreme law of the United States. TheConstitution, originally comprising seven articles, delineates the national frame of government.

Short essay on the Meaning and Importance of Constitution

There is a constitution in every country to guide the government and to govern the people. Both the government and people are bound to obey it. The constitution contains provisions relating to the powers and duties of government, the relations between government and people and the rights and duties of people.
This helps in maintaining discipline in the society, makes government responsible and makes people aware that the government belongs to them.
The views of some eminent scholars about the constitution have been given below. Aristotle says, "Constitution is the way of life the state has chosen for itself." According to Dicey, the constitution is a combination of those rules which, directly or indirectly, influence the distribution and use of sovereign power.
Woolsey has observed that the constitution is "the collection of principles according to which the powers of the government, the rights of the governed, and the relations between the two are adjusted." According to Bryce, "the constitution of a state consists of those of its rules or laws which determine the form of its government and the respective rights and duties of it towards the citizens and of the citizens towards the government."
Gettel has said that the constitution consists of those basic principles which determine the form of the state. K. C. Wheare observes, "The constitution is that body of rules which regulates the ends for which and the organs through which governmental power is exercised."
Gilchrist says, the constitution consists of "that body of rules or laws, written or unwritten, which determine the organization of the government, the distribution of powers to various organs of the government and the general principle on which these powers are to be exercised.
The constitution is the most important legal document of the country. It helps maintain law and order in the country. Without a constitution, there will be anarchy in the state or country. Jellinek has argued that in the absence of a constitution, every individual, every institution, and even the government itself will ignore the law and as a result, there will be 'reign of anarchy.'

The Importance of the U.S. Constitution
The importance of the U.S. Constitution and of America's founding principles cannot be overstated. Our Founders set up a system, unmatched anywhere in the world, where the powers of the government are restrained, not the rights of the people. The Constitution is the instruction manual for our republic; it is a dead document that means exactly what it says, nothing more or less. The Bill of Rights safeguards our God-given natural rights, which will be slowly infringed upon by an intrusive and overbearing federal government if We the People do not fight to protect and preserve the Constitution and our founding principles.

One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors. -- Plato (429-347 BC)
