This is me voting a straight red ticket this week!
When I was 12 I attended a conference with my mom and stepdad in Long Beach and I remember hearing Beverly Davis say, “if you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything.” Wow, that moved me! It begged the questions, Who am I? and What do I believe in? From that point on I was responsible and confident enough to make up my own mind. If I didn’t understand something I might ask others to enlighten me but never followed anyone blindly.
Fast forward to my early adulthood, I felt that politics was one big fraternity where men told you what you wanted to hear just to get elected and have their name inked in the history books (don’t forget their great healthcare and pensions that followed for life). I joined the Air Force right after high school and voted for Ross Perot. I thought then we needed a businessman who was in it for the right reasons. I knew if you do things for the wrong reasons you get the wrong results. Like karma, it’ll catch up to you later. As far as I was concerned, the US kept doing the wrong things.
Fast forward again 25 years, I still think we need a businessman in the White House. To be honest, I loved the idea but as I watched the first debate with Donald Trump and Killary, I couldn’t fathom how it would turn out. I just knew I didn’t trust her on a single issue. I didn’t really love Trump’s style, but he was saying all the right things. He had done his homework and was surrounded by some good people and saying things other politicians wouldn’t bring up for fear of alienating donors and/or voters.
In those 25 interim years, no President did anything material to increase our position on a global scale. Each President systematically proved to the World the US spine was disintegrating and refused to broker deals to our advantage. I must say we did appear to come together as a nation after 9/11 but slowly lost our fervor for unity and patriotism.
Let me be the first to say, I don’t condone sexual harassment or sexual misconduct. But let’s be real, if Clinton got a pass then Trump should too. Like math, their situations cancel each other out, so that topic was off the table for me. Not only that, the specifics were vastly different.
I wanted a President that put the US first regarding issues like, economy, military, safety, healthcare, infrastructure, immigration, Veterans, etc. The Declaration of Independence, the Rule of Law, Constitution and the Bill of Rights provided ample support for any President to do what President Trump has done. So, there must have been a reason that behooved them personally or professionally to not stand for something, I mean us, the USA.
Shockingly, I got my wish on November 8th, 2016. I’ve not been disappointed. I’m not always popular in some of my circles for my beliefs, but the popular vote isn’t all it’s cracked up to be…
Again, just like math, the order of operations comes to mind when approaching our path back to a worldwide superpower. We must strive to solve our stateside, internal problems before we can bankroll the struggles of other Nations. I believe we should fund and support measures that promote a stronger Nation and stronger Allies. Nationalism, I heard President Trump describe this very succinctly last week at the rally in Houston.
We’ve all heard the saying that you’re in the best position to aid others when you take care of yourself first. This easily applies to helping friends, family members or others around the globe. Also, we’ve all heard the concepts of doing things right the first time and a stitch in time saves nine. These principles were not carried out as much as they should have been over the last 25 years, so it appears President Trump’s efforts to right the ship seem drastic or unsympathetic to those in less fortunate conditions. That’s just not the case, he’s making the tough decisions to ensure the safety and prosperity of each of us today and for generations to come. Many of his predecessors applied band-aids instead on addressing the root of our difficulties.
Let’s not forget we only have an immigration problem because we offer the greatest freedoms, economy, and military available. Those are what made the US attractive to so many immigrants years ago and still today. I only ask today’s immigrants first prove they can follow the citizenship steps set forth long ago, the ones that legal immigrants are proud to adhere to. This indicates they’ll take pride in the other numerous laws in place and continue to acknowledge them. Granted, there are some not so savory legal immigrants, as well as illegal immigrants. There is no full proof formula, only demonstration of effort which should still mean something in this country.
Over the last 21 months, I’ve seem President Trump make great strides for the growing middle class, many of which have been ignored by MSM. I trust that our country’s leadership is making sound decisions based on data that we are not privy to. I learned in the military that much of the information is shared based on need to know basis. Following that principle, I trust President Trump is more educated than me or the MSM, so I let him do his job. I offered Presidents Bush, Clinton, and Obama the same latitude knowing time would dictate the soundness of their efforts.
I’m also gay and have been chastised in public for my views and reluctance to conform to the beliefs of that faction by personal friends. It’ll never happen, here’s why: If we don’t secure our borders, infrastructure and economy we won’t have the freedoms we enjoy, and all too often take for granted, anymore. The first freedom we’ll lose will be the widespread acceptance of sexual orientation and same-sex marriage. I, too, am voting to protect the same freedoms my friends believe are at stake. Similar to parenting, we all want the same for our children, but may all approach it a little differently.
To wrap this up, I believe there is value in agreeing to disagree and tolerance for other’s opinions. As a nation, we’ve lost that soft skill. I didn’t particularly care for the Clinton and Obama era’s, but I did respect the process our Founding Fathers crafted and never missed an opportunity to vote.
I’m thankful Brandon Straka started this movement and united over 200K people on a forum that has allowed so many to share their stories and find comfort knowing that they’re not alone. For me and a few friends in Austin, Texas, #Walkaway Campaign has been a source of real hope! #WalkTheVote #MAGA #RedWave #WalkWith #Blexit
