Hillary Clinton advocated for sending illegal immigrant children home in 2014
In June 2014, in the midst of an immigration crisis spurred, in part, by then-President Barack Obama’s promise to allow unaccompanied minors to stay in America without fear of deportation, a future presidential candidate sat down with CNN to confront the situation.
When asked if these child-migrants should “be sent back” to their countries of origin, former secretary of State Hillary Clinton left no doubts about her position. “We have to send a clear message, just because your child gets across the border, that doesn’t mean the child gets to stay,” she said at the time.
Send them home
“So, we don’t want to send a message that is contrary to our laws or will encourage more children to make that dangerous journey,” Clinton concluded. President Donald Trump would be proud to hear her speak with the same conviction today.
Instead of sending them home, Clinton sought to preserve Obama’s legacy by encouraging her supporters to “fight with everything” they’ve got to keep young immigrants from being deported.
Clinton’s transparent hypocrisy began resurfacing in September 2017, at the height of the DACA debate and when Democrats were threatening a government shutdown unless their maximalist demands were met.
However, now that the national immigration debate has zeroed in on those very children that Mrs. Clinton has argued don’t get “to stay” simply by virtue of crossing “the border,” the twice-failed presidential candidate would be wise to keep her head down and her mouth shut.
About face
Of course, Clinton can’t refuse an opportunity to criticize her Republican arch-nemesis.
Indulging in a healthy serving of schadenfreude, she took to Twitter on Monday to showcase just how much her opinion has changed since 2014

Clinton’s words in 2014 sound strikingly similar to those of Trump’s in 2018. Defending his “zero policy” commitment to detaining all immigrants caught attempting to surreptitiously enter the U.S., Trump wrote:
We must always arrest people coming into our Country illegally. Of the 12,000 children, 10,000 are being sent by their parents on a very dangerous trip, and only 2000 are with their parents, many of whom have tried to enter our Country illegally on numerous occasions.
Abandoning all class
Like many liberals, Clinton’s latest outrage is rooted in her uncontrollable hatred for the president. With a bold, unapologetic Republican occupying the White House, Democrats like Clinton are willing to sacrifice their common sense to worship at the altar of partisan politics.
While she was perfectly capable of viewing events through the lens of pragmatic realism in 2014, Clinton now resorts to appealing to the emotions of her constituents, relying on a logical fallacy for political gain.
Like most Democrats and even many Republicans, Clinton likely sees the immigration crisis on the southern border as a provocative tool to win back congressional seats in the 2018 election. Yet, there may be an overflowing “basket of deplorables” that, once again, the left has totally underestimated.
