Over 1000 Delegates Voted Against Democrat Party Platform in Sign of Division
In 2016, many of Senator Bernie Sanders’ (D-VT) supporters were furious with the Democratic Party for what they believe was a deliberate attempt to give Hillary Clinton the nomination. As a result, about 1 in 10 voters in the progressive bloc cast their ballots for Donald Trump and he sailed to victory. Four years later, the party is once again feeling the rift between the two ideologies.
On August 18, the Democratic Party announced its delegates had voted to pass their 92-page party platform. However, they didn’t release their roll-call vote until after the Democratic National Convention (DNC) was over. Maybe because the Left is incredibly divided.
According to a Fox News report, 1,069 of their delegates voted against the party’s platform. Another 87 abstained from voting. Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) was one of those who voted no. She explained why in a tweet.
Today, I cast my DNC ballot and voted NO on the proposed platform. I constantly hear from constituents demanding we push for a single-payer system and away from this for-profit system that is leaving people to suffer and die just because they cannot afford health care. 1/2
The election is less than 70 days away. If Joe Biden can’t bring his party together, that puts Trump at a great advantage going into November. A divided Democratic Party is much easier to beat.
