Pro-life votes in Senate and House

Patriots, It’s Saturday morning and time for your weekly summary from the Hill! This week, three important bills were considered: two in the Senate and one in the House. But before we jump in, give us a follow on Twitter if you want up-to-date information about important conservative causes each week!

Happening on the Hill

On Tuesday, the Senate failed to pass two bills that would have protected the lives of the unborn.

The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Act (S. 3275), failed to pass the Senate with a 53-44 vote (60 needed). The legislation was designed to protect unborn children by preventing abortions 20 weeks after fertilization, at which time scientific evidence suggests the unborn child can feel pain. A more recent study suggests the baby could potentially feel pain as early as 12 weeks. See how your senators voted

The Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act (S.311), failed to pass the Senate with a 56-44 vote (60 needed). This bill comes at a time when several states have recently passed or proposed laws to legalize abortion up until birth. The legislation would have required that appropriate medical care be given to any child who survives an attempted abortion and would establish criminal penalties for health care practitioners that violate this requirement. See how your senators voted

On Friday, the House failed to protect the life of the unborn while passing a nanny-state bill that bans flavored tobacco and vaping products.

The Reversing the Youth Tobacco Epidemic Act of 2019 (H.R.2339) is a nanny-state bill that bans the sale of flavored tobacco & vaping products and creates a new $10 billion tax on Americans who buy vaping products. It passed the House by a vote of 213-195

But before the final vote on H.R. 2339, Republican leadership submitted a motion to recommit (MTR), recommending that H.R. 2339 be returned to committee and amended to include the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act (H.R. 962), an identical bill to what was voted on in the Senate.

The vote on the MTR was essentially a vote on Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. Sadly 220 House Democrats against it and the MTR failed. It's sad that there are 220 congressmen who believe that some living babies don't deserve a chance at life. For more on MTRs, check out this op-ed from vice president Jessica Anderson.

Defend Your Health Care - Take Action

Remember Obamacare? You were told you could keep your doctor. You were told costs would go down. But that didn’t happen. Many lost their doctors and healthcare costs have only increased.
Congress wants to institute socialist price controls as a “fix” for surprise medical billing and prescription drug pricing. These are real problems, but government-dictated prices are not a real solution.
Your congressmen and senators need to hear from you. Many in Congress are not sure where to stand on the policies being proposed—your calls, tweets, and emails can make all the difference.

Roe v. Wade Anniversary

Today is the 47th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision in the U.S. Supreme Court legalizing abortion. Prior to a march to mark the occasion, Ms. Franz and others briefed reporters on progress in the past year on pro-life issues.
